About Our Practices
What makes Wild Women Herbs different from other herbal companies?
We believe herbal medicine should be simple, transparent and rooted in tradition.
Here's what sets us apart:
- Small-batch, handcrafted products made in our Pacific Northwest apothecary.
- Thoughtfully sourced herbs that are grown in our gardens, ethically wildcrafted or purchased from trusted growers.
- High-quality ingredients with no unnecessary fillers, artificial fragrances or harsh chemicals.
- Formulated in-house using traditional Western herbalism and years of hands-on experience.
- An education-first approach focused on helping you confidently build and use your own home apothecary.
When you choose Wild Women Herbs, you're supporting a family-owned small business dedicated to crafting effective herbal remedies, honoring traditional plant wisdom and caring for both people and the land. Every product is thoughtfully handcrafted with the same care, quality and attention to detail that we'd use for our own family.
Who formulates your herbal products, and what experience do you have?
Every Wild Women Herbs product is personally formulated by founder and herbalist Megan Gurule. Megan has been studying, growing and working with medicinal plants for over a decade and has owned an herbal wellness business since 2015. Before becoming a full-time herbalist, she spent 15 years in healthcare as both an EMT and Registered Nurse, providing a strong foundation in anatomy, physiology and evidence-based care.
Our formulas are rooted in traditional Western herbalism, informed by modern research when appropriate and refined through years of hands-on experience. Every product is handcrafted in small batches in our Pacific Northwest apothecary using thoughtfully selected ingredients and time-honored methods.

Where are your products made?
Every Wild Women Herbs product is handcrafted in small batches in our Western Washington apothecary. From tinctures and salves to botanical skincare and candles, we oversee every step of the process to ensure the highest quality and freshness.
Where do you source your herbs?
We use a combination of herbs that are grown in our own gardens, ethically wildcrafted from the Pacific Northwest and thoughtfully sourced from trusted organic and sustainable growers. Whenever possible, we prioritize fresh, locally grown and seasonal botanicals.
Are your products handmade?
Yes. Every product is handcrafted in small batches to ensure quality, freshness and attention to detail.
Do you use organic ingredients?
Whenever possible, we use certified organic ingredients. When organic isn't available, we source from reputable growers who follow sustainable and ethical growing practices.
Are your products cruelty-free?
Yes. We never test our products on animals, and we are committed to using ingredients that are ethically and responsibly sourced. Any animal-derived ingredients we use, such as beeswax, honey or grass-fed tallow, come from farms and beekeepers that prioritize humane, ethical and sustainable animal care.
Are your products vegan?
Not all of our products are vegan. Some products, such as our tallow skincare and herbal elixirs made with raw honey, contain animal-derived ingredients. Each product listing clearly identifies its ingredients.
Product Questions
How long do your herbal products last?
The shelf life of our products varies depending on the ingredients and preparation method, but most products remain fresh for 12–24 months when stored properly. Each product includes a best-by date on the label for easy reference.
To maximize shelf life:
- Store products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Keep lids and caps tightly closed.
- Avoid introducing water or dirty fingers into jars.
Because we use natural ingredients and make our products in small batches, slight variations in color, aroma or consistency are completely normal.
Why does my product look or smell different than my last purchase?
Plants naturally vary from season to season. Weather, growing conditions, harvest timing and extraction methods can all influence the color, aroma and appearance of herbal products. These natural variations are expected and are one of the hallmarks of genuine botanical products.
Why do your products have sediment or specks?
Many of our tinctures, syrups and infused oils are minimally processed to preserve as much of the plant’s natural goodness as possible. Because of this, you may occasionally notice fine herbal particles or natural sediment in the bottle. You may also see small specks in our tallow bars from the natural beeswax used in the formula. These are normal variations from minimally processed ingredients, not dirt or signs of spoilage.
Do you use preservatives?
We never use synthetic or unnecessary preservatives simply to extend shelf life. Instead, we preserve our products using traditional methods appropriate for each formulation. Depending on the product, this may include naturally preserving ingredients such as alcohol, raw honey, beeswax, carrier oils or essential oils, all of which have been used for generations to help maintain the quality and stability of herbal preparations.
Using Herbal Products
How do I know which herbal remedy is right for me?
Choosing the right herbal remedy depends on your individual wellness goals. Each product page includes detailed information about its traditional uses, key herbs and suggested applications.
If you're still unsure, we're happy to answer questions and help you choose products based on their traditional uses. However, we cannot diagnose, treat or recommend products for specific medical conditions.
How long does it usually take for herbal remedies to work?
Some herbs may be noticed relatively quickly, while others are traditionally used to support long-term wellness and are most effective when taken consistently over time. Results vary from person to person.
Can I take more than one tincture or elixir at the same time?
Often, yes. Many herbs are traditionally combined together. However, because everyone has different health conditions and medications, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider before combining herbal products if you have any concerns.
Are your herbal remedies safe during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
Not all herbs are considered appropriate during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. In fact, most herbs have not been extensively studied for safety during pregnancy or lactation, so there simply isn't enough high-quality research to confidently determine whether many herbal products are safe during these stages of life.
While many herbs have a long history of traditional use, tradition is not the same as scientific evidence. For this reason, we recommend taking a cautious approach and consulting your healthcare provider, midwife or a qualified clinical herbalist before using any herbal products during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Some herbs that are generally avoided during pregnancy unless specifically recommended by a qualified practitioner include:
- Black Cohosh
- Blue Cohosh
- Goldenseal
- Mugwort
- Pennyroyal
- Thuja (Arborvitae)
- Wormwood
- Juniper
- Cotton Root Bark
- Angelica (Dong Quai)
- Large amounts of Sage
- Licorice Root (especially with high blood pressure)
There are also several herbs that are generally considered safe when used appropriately, although you should still discuss their use with your healthcare provider:
- Ginger (for occasional nausea)
- Chamomile (in moderation)
- Lemon Balm
- Nettle Leaf
- Oatstraw
- Red Raspberry Leaf (typically recommended after the first trimester)
- Rose
- Calendula (primarily topical use)
If a product contains herbs that are traditionally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, we make every effort to note that in the product description. If you have any questions about a specific product, please don't hesitate to contact us before purchasing.
Can children use your herbal products?
Some herbal products may be appropriate for children, while others are intended for adults only. Recommended herbs, preparations and serving sizes vary depending on a child's age, weight and individual needs.
Please note that none of our elixirs or syrups are recommended for infants under 12 months of age because they contain raw honey. Raw honey can contain spores of Clostridium botulinum, which may cause infant botulism in babies under one year of age. For this reason, pediatricians and the CDC recommend that infants younger than 12 months should not consume honey in any form, including herbal syrups and elixirs.
For older children, many herbs can be used safely when they are age-appropriate and properly dosed. However, because children's bodies process herbs differently than adults, we always recommend consulting your pediatric healthcare provider before introducing any new herbal product.
If you're shopping for a child, please contact us before purchasing. We're happy to help you determine which products are traditionally appropriate for your child's age and answer any questions you may have about ingredients or usage.
Can I use your products with prescription medications?
Some herbs can interact with prescription medications by increasing or decreasing their effects, altering how they're metabolized or increasing the risk of side effects. While many herbs are generally well tolerated, it's important to exercise caution if you're taking prescription medications, have a chronic medical condition or are preparing for surgery.
Some of the most well-known herbs that may interact with medications include:
- St. John's Wort – May reduce the effectiveness of many medications by increasing their breakdown in the liver, including birth control pills, antidepressants, blood thinners, transplant medications and certain heart medications.
- Ginkgo – May increase the risk of bleeding when combined with blood thinners or antiplatelet medications.
- Garlic (high-dose supplements) – May increase bleeding risk and may affect some blood pressure and diabetes medications.
- Ginger – Large amounts may increase bleeding risk and may affect blood sugar or blood pressure.
- Turmeric – High doses may increase bleeding risk and may interact with blood sugar medications.
- Goldenseal – Can affect liver enzymes responsible for metabolizing many prescription medications.
- Licorice Root – May raise blood pressure, lower potassium levels and interfere with heart medications, diuretics and corticosteroids.
- Kava – May increase sedation and should not be combined with alcohol or other medications that affect the central nervous system.
- Valerian – May enhance the effects of sedatives, sleep medications and certain anti-anxiety medications.
- Echinacea – May interact with immunosuppressant medications and certain drugs metabolized by the liver.
The medications most commonly affected by herbs include:
- Blood thinners and anticoagulants (such as warfarin, apixaban, rivaroxaban and clopidogrel)
- Blood pressure medications
- Diabetes medications and insulin
- Antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications
- Sleep medications and sedatives
- Immunosuppressant medications (such as those used after organ transplants)
- Heart rhythm medications
- Anti-seizure medications
- Thyroid medications
- Birth control pills
- Certain chemotherapy medications
This is not a complete list, and many interactions depend on the specific herb, dosage and individual health history. If you're taking any prescription medications, are under the care of a healthcare provider or have a chronic medical condition, we strongly recommend speaking with your physician or pharmacist before beginning any new herbal product.
Are your products FDA approved?
No. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not approve herbal dietary supplements in the same way it approves prescription or over-the-counter medications.
As required by the FDA, the statements made about our products have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Orders & Shipping
How quickly do you ship orders?
We process and ship orders every Tuesday and Thursday. Most orders leave our apothecary within 3–5 business days, although processing times may be slightly longer during holidays or busy seasons.
Once shipped, you'll receive tracking information via email.
Why is shipping so expensive?
We understand that shipping costs can be frustrating, and we do our best to keep them as low as possible. We do not mark up shipping rates or profit from shipping charges—you pay what the carrier charges us.
In recent years, the USPS has significantly changed how shipping prices are calculated. Rather than using weight alone, rates are now based on a combination of:
- Package weight (shipments under one pound are sometimes charged at the one-pound rate)
- Package dimensions (the larger the package, the more iit costs to ship)
- The shipping distance, known as shipping zones, with packages traveling farther costing more to ship
Because of these changes, the same package may cost significantly more to ship to one part of the country than another, even if it weighs the same.
One silver lining is that shipping becomes more cost-effective as you add items to your order. Since many small packages are already charged at or near the one-pound rate, adding another salve, tincture or skincare item often increases the shipping cost by much less than you might expect. In many cases, you'll pay less in shipping per item when purchasing multiple products rather than placing several smaller orders.
Whenever possible, we use packaging that safely protects your order while keeping it as small and lightweight as possible. We carefully select the smallest box or mailer that will fit your items to help minimize dimensional shipping charges without compromising the safe arrival of your order.
How long does shipping take?
Most U.S. orders arrive within 2–7 business days after shipment, depending on your location and the shipping service selected (we offer Ground Advantage and Priority Mail).
Do you offer local pickup?
Yes, if you are in the greater Rochester, WA area. Please message us to see if delivery is available in your area.
Do you ship internationally?
We do not ship internationally at this time, sorry.
What if my package is lost or damaged?
Please contact us as soon as possible if your package arrives damaged or appears to have been lost in transit. We'll work with you and the shipping carrier to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
Returns & Customer Service
What is your return policy?
Because our products are handcrafted and many are considered personal care items, we cannot accept returns on opened or used products.
If your order arrives damaged, incorrect or there's an issue with your purchase, please contact us within 7 days of delivery and we'll work with you to make it right.
What if I ordered the wrong product?
Please contact us as soon as possible. If your order hasn't shipped yet, we'll do our best to update or cancel it.

If you need to cancel or make changes to your order, please contact us as soon as possible. We'll do our best to accommodate your request if your order has not yet been packed or shipped. Once an order has been shipped, we're unable to make changes or cancellations.
What should I do if I received the wrong item?
We're sorry for the mistake! If you received an incorrect item, please contact us within 7 days of delivery with your order number and a photo of what you received. We'll work quickly to send the correct item and provide instructions for returning the incorrect product if necessary.
What if my package arrives damaged?
Although we carefully package every order, shipping damage can occasionally occur. If your package arrives damaged, please contact us within 7 days of delivery and include photos of the damaged product and packaging. We'll work with you to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and assist you with filing a claim when appropriate.
My package says "Delivered," but I can't find it. What should I do?
If your tracking information shows that your package has been delivered but you can't locate it, we recommend first checking around your property, with household members and with nearby neighbors. Occasionally, carriers place packages in a safe location that's not immediately visible.
If you're still unable to locate your package after 48 hours, please contact us. While we cannot guarantee replacement of packages marked as delivered by the carrier, we'll do everything we can to help you locate your shipment or assist you with filing a claim when appropriate.
